I have a Janspeed exhaust fitted and noticed that it has been sounding a little rougher than normal. After a look underneath it looked at though the bracket has snapped at the strongest point!
Also as for replacing the studs I totally agree soaking in plus gas and the only safe way to extract is the double nut method against each other. But it is best to use two flange nuts.
Best get the stainless mig out again. These brackets seem to snap for fun!

I seem to have miss placed my spares studs & nuts which I sourced from Mercedes, I remember that these were threaded all the way where as the ones I have just removed have a spot in the near to the end which isn't threaded. Does anyone know if these are just standard M8 x 55 exhaust studs or are they a special thread/pitch.

Can I just make my own studs out of high tensile M8 threaded bar? Or will any local motor factors m8 x 55 studs work?

Well, my 1999 City + passion has finally decided enough is enough - it started running on 2 cylinders on the Bank Holiday Monday.

I can't really complain too much as it has done ~ 143,000 + miles abd although it has been drinking oil for a long time now, it continued to run as if nothing was wrong....

So a phone call and chat has resulted in it been taken away to be "Fudged".

Hopefully when it comes back it will be good for another 100,000 mile + again.
The auction was also live on line. Highest bid - £4600!!! The interesting thing is my 2010 model passion has a GFV of £5600 after 3 years so someone is going to loose a lot of money, but not me as I intend to walk away after the three year agreement as I bought the car on the scrappage scheme and only paid £7300 plus £80 per month - cheap motoring.

Right, firstly im new to the Smart car scene, my new little back and forth to work car as im usually an Audi guy (and i do still have one for the weekends ;))

I bought myself a Smart City Pure 2003 on Sunday (5/9/10) with 70k on the clock on the assumed condition that the piston rings may have gone as its burning a bit of oil and smokes a little on hard acceleration. Ive used around 0.3litres over approx. 350 miles so im assuming what i was told is true :)

So the questions:

1. What ECU does my Smart have?
2. Is there anywhere around Stafford way that repair / service / upgrade Smarts?
3. Could it be the piston rings that have gone to cause the oil to burn as fast as it has? Or are there other likely reason?
4. The service light is on and has been for the past 8000 miles so im assuming it is well overdue a service!! Could this be the reason its buring oil?! Just needs a good service and perhaps replacing the top oil breather (have read this causes issues!)????

Looking forward to your replies.

Mark
