The tridion is an amazing piece of design, to be able to dissipate the force of a collision over such a short distance. I am still stunned that a 451 can survive a direct hit from a wrecking ball at 30mph and seem like minor damage. |

Re: 451 crash test
erm it's a small lightweight car effectively acts like a snooker ball on a table.
Just hope your internal organs can take the acceleration from the wrecking ball. Hopefully the car is bounced out of the way of further damage. Last edited by madDan; 09-03-09 at 08:58 PM.. |

I know the tridion is an incredible design but i was stating that i wouldnt wanna be in one in a crash cos although its probably stronger and safer than my car,its just the thought that my feet would be about 6inches from what i hit,not that i hit things its just physcological. It like bungee jumping is safe 99.999% of the time but i still wont do it as i say its just physcological The occupant survived but did the 451 survive the wrecking ball be interesting to know if it would still start and drive after the impact? Perhaps it could give the Top Gear HI LUX a run for its money Last edited by nickb; 09-03-09 at 11:43 PM.. |

It's all just marketing rollox at the end of the day. Okay the tridion on the fortwo is fairly good at the job of staying intact and still looking like a smart car after a crash because of the 'squarer' shape of the shorter body. but it also means more of the crash energy/g forces are passed on to the passenger resulting in inevitable internal organ damage. A longer car would give more chance for a slower crumple zone and more gentle deceleration. Low speeds it might be okay. but higher speeds you'll get shovelled out of it in a body bag. And the tridion 'looks' were just 'stapled' on to the forfour/colt floorpan afaik ![]() to give the same look as the fortwo tridion shell on a forfour/colt floorpan, but nothing like the strength![]() ![]() ![]() Of course the wrecking ball smart would still start after that bump, the rad might be leaking a bit and the steering a bit wonky, but the engine would still start ![]() |

Re: 451 crash test
yeah off course cos engine is at back, think your right about internal injuries at speed.I do a lot of motorway driving and i think my survival rate would be higher in my Car than in a ForTwo.Ncap dont do high speed crash tests so we will never know or hopefully never have to find out.
