  • Fuel pump seems dead :-(

After a successful testdrive, my 42 Mk1, gasoline, just stopped (home on the yard fortunately).
Impossible to re-start, starter just turns round the engine.
After a while, I realized that there is no sound from the fuelpump anymore.
If there is not an electrical fault, I guess that the fuelpump is used up (10000km).
Anyone fitted some universal pump inside the tank?
Is it possible to fit an external pump instead? I would like to fix the car finally this weekend, and there are no pumps availble here with such a short notice..

Where is the most common electrical fault in this case? The fuel pump relay? Where is it located?

Thanks Dan, will check it then. This morning the car started as usual again...
Can be pump, or something else..

But nobody have tried to replace the pump inside the tank, and not the whole unit with levelsensor and stuff?
There are cheap pumps availbile now from China for a number of cars, maybe they fit?
The big benefit is not the money here, but the availablity of specific pumps for our rare cars :-)

Ha! I wish. Unfortunately not. Tank out (or at least lowered).

Thanks, Big, the pump is OK, it turned out though.
I understand now that the pump is not given power until you crank, and then its difficult to notice if its running or not.
I took out the LHS seat and installed an extra lead with a switch so I alwasy can force the pump to run now...
However...even if I force the pump to run, the engine is dead.
            I continue in next thread...:

I asked about the relay and fuses...
