  • Engine stalled !!!

    Hi All,
Tonight while driving home (engine not quite up to full operating temperature) while slowing down for a roundabout the yellow engine light comes on followed by all the ignition light (like when you are about to start car) & the engine stall / stops. Tried pushing the gear lever forward to bump start the car, but nothing happens. Quickly knock into neutral & turn key - engine starts with no problem, all the lights go out & car behaves & drives as normal.

    Any ideas why????

Last year I had the crank position sensor changed as this would short out once hot, other wise the car has run with no problems.

    Cheers for your help
    J.

Possibly earth cable, reluctor rings or clutch actuator (though if the latter I would expect a 3 line error).

      Re: Engine stalled !!!

I'm not convinced reluctor rings would stop the engine.

I'd be more inclined to 'wait' and see if it does it again!!

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

As you haven't rebooted it via a battery reset there may well be something in the error log.

Reluctor rings can put the car into safe mode & cut the engine.
We had that problem on our fortwo. Flicking gear would then restart the engine.

            Thanks for the advice.
            Reluctor rings all look fine.
Will have a go at cleaning the earth cable points - I take it I should do both battery & engine bay?
            Cheers

              Yes.
TBH for the cost of a replacement set of leads (see the smartmods website), you may as well just replace them for peace of mind.
